With the introduction of CAE (computer-aided engineering) and 3D-CAD (computer-aided design), globalization of design data sharing by using IT have been achieved, resulting in high precision, short lead times, and low cost compatibility We are in the era of the "nanometer" for tooling design and development. We are able to maintain competitiveness in engineering and cost with the flow and structure analysis capabilities of CAE, together with the total concept initiating from design through machining and inspection capabilities of 3D-CAD. We have also achieved, through IT global networks, sharing tooling design, engineering and quality information, which has allowed efficient and rapid development resulting in a shortened lead time.
