Pioneer’s optical disk development members all joined with the Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing Corporation (“PDDM”) in October 2009. After that, all our optical disk drives have been developed and commercially produced at PDDM. In this column, we would like to introduce you to our new optical disk drive development environment as it has been extended by the new organization, PDDM.
Inaugurated at the Kawasaki Head Office

Head Office courtyard
PDDM is situated on a floor of Pioneer’s Kawasaki Head Office building. It started up as the former design and production organization for Pioneer’s optical disk-related products who were later joined by the optical disk development team from Sharp Corporation. You could tell from the start that this joint venture had reinforced its development potential. The new organization is still young, but we are already hearing the first murmurs of the positive effects of this union from long-term members of Pioneer's drive development unit: “Particularly in semiconductor lasers, we can now use cutting-edge parts that maximize our combined strengths,” “We can get feedback from TV users in addition to the PC drive users, which is very informative when developing optical disk drive products” and so on.

  What PDDM Aims for

As our primary goal when we inaugurated the new department, we aimed to bring out synergic effects that add up to more than two organizations simply put together by drawing on the strengths of both of our organizations. As of the writing of this column (2 months after the foundation), we are already getting a solid feel for the effects.
Toward the Delivery of Our First Products

We are currently steadily working on the development of PC drives and audio system drives. In the future, we intend to create more reliable and higher quality drives for many different applications, so we hope that our customers look forward to them.

The members mentioned in the development story have also joined PDDM. Our new employee ID cards have also been turned over from red to black. We hope you keep looking forward to our exclusive high-performance Pioneer drives.
