	BDR-S06J has many features that we would like to introduce, but here we have picked out the most characteristic functions.
	In this mode, the drive checks the BD-R disk medium, judges whether it’s a medium type that should be written to with low speed or higher speed, and selects the best suitable write speed. It also checks the properties of the individual BD-R disks (thickness, center misalignment, position of core, etc.) and automatically selects the optimal recording speed for each disk. No need to ponder over what speed to use. Let the drive do the job.
	With this function, the drive writes to unsupported BD recording media with a speed up to 4x by automatically predicting the optimal recording strategy. The BD market is expanding, and different BD-R media come and go. In such circumstances, not all disks that a customer has purchased may be supported media. The use of this function reduces the occurrence of problems such as not being able to record to purchased disks that are not listed in the supported media list.
	While using the silence utility, although not a problem in performance mode, in silent mode the data transfer speed may not be ensured for the inner circumference of some future 3D blu-ray titles, playback software, or PC specifications. To prepare for this problem, BDR-S06J is equipped with a new algorithm that supports blu-ray 3D even in silent mode. (No problems with the recording and playback of 3D blu-ray disks have been reported with our previous BD drive models. However, should any problem occur, please use performance mode.)
	Matte black has been a proven popular color. We conducted a number of fashion market trend surveys and surveys with casing manufacturers and users, and commercialized "rubber black” as our choice for the matte black color in our lineup.

	Noise on CD audio disks, tiny scratches invisible to the eye, warps in the disk, and other micro-level distortions can cause interpolations when reading. This means that the sound produced is different from the originally recorded sound. By using PureRead 2’s Perfect Mode to rip CDs, you can read the original sound data on the CD audio disk.
	With earlier models, if there was a scratch, fingerprint, or smear on the surface of a disk, or if a disk with unsatisfactory recording properties was used, the drive retried reading the unreadable part. When this happened, the reading did not proceed and you ended up with the screen freezing, causing a break in the video. The BD/DVD disk recovery support function PowerReadTM was developed to remedy this error. After it tries to read the scratched part (or otherwise difficult to read part) several times, it returns “0 data” to the host and reads the next block of data. This forced read function for BDs and DVDs reduces the probability of video playback freeze-ups and allows the user to enjoy smooth playback.
	BDR-S06J is equipped with Pioneer’s exclusive honeycomb pattern that we have used in audio component products and the BD-supporting silence tray first adopted for BDR-S03J. Noise is reduced by controlling the air currents created by the spinning disk. The efficient circulation of air inside the drive controls the local rise in temperature in the pick-up and disk surface that occurs during high-speed or extended disk rotation. We also adjusted the position of the dust-proofing and sound-proofing pads and ensured air-tightness of the dedicated front bezel as some of our approaches to perfect silence. Our exhaustive silent design achieved a reduction in operating sounds (noise), which assures our customers of safe, long-term use.
	Let us introduce the other drives simultaneously developed as members of the BDR-S06 family and their differences. First of all, BDR-S06J is a high-end model integrated with all prime Pioneer functions. BDR-206JBK is a simplified version of BDR-S06J, aimed to be a more affordable option. It basically has the same bundled software as BDR-S06J. BDR-206JBK is found in many guises, ranging from recorders for audio/video systems to OEM drives for players. This time around we also developed BDR-206MBK based off the BDR-206JBK as the world’s first BD-XL drive. Instead of having high-speed writer functions, it is equipped with a BD-XL function. (‘M’ in the product code indicates BDXL support.) We are expecting the BD-XL format to become more popular in the future. Summary of major features of the S06J Family: 1.
