  Many visitors have accessed vol.03 where we introduced Towada Pioneer, so this time we would like to further detail the plant using the BDR-205 production line as an example.  
  Let No One Enter without Removing Static and Dust!  
   
 
Towada Pioneer
One of the key points of manufacturing optical disk drives is the elimination of static electricity and dust. Static electricity can collect dust, so when someone or something charged with static electricity enters a production line, the electrical discharge to the parts can degrade them or have an adverse effect on parts that need to be dustproof. For this reason, all of Pioneer’s optical disk drive production plants, including Towada Pioneer, take strict measures throughout the plants, from the entrance to the production lines, to prevent static electricity and dust from entering and accumulating.

Here at Towada Pioneer, everyone--- visitors are not exempted---is required to change into specialized anti-static shoes at the entrance on the first floor. This is our first step in preventing dust from entering the office rooms and production lines on the second floor. In addition, all workers wear anti-static work clothes. At the production sites, to safeguard a dust-free environment, the workers change into special work wear for clean rooms.
 
  Production Lines Filled with Clean Air and Comfortable Humidity  
   
  The air pressure in the production lines is constantly pressurized and humidified by clean air flowing from the inside to the outside. This keeps most dust from entering the production lines. The lines are all completely covered by a dedicated anti-static curtains. Along with other anti-static measures, the humidifier system installed throughout the floor stabilizes the humidity to control airborne particles. In addition, dust collectors are set up in certain processes to remove dusts produced from parts. Through such fail-safe contrivances, we are able to maintain the high quality level of our products.  
 
  Production System Making Constant Progress towards the Perfect Production Improvement  
   
 
The manufacturing engineers at Towada Pioneer are engaged in the BD drive development project from the design phase. This makes for a smooth launch of commercial production as well as improved product performance and reliability. Our challenge to improve continues, drawing and building on integrated efforts.
 
  Monitoring Quality in Chinese Plant via Real-time Quality Monitoring System  
   
 
Merely bringing the production lines and know-how we have in Japan to China does not reproduce stable products. Therefore, Towada Pioneer developed its own quality monitoring system that enables BD drive production lines in China to be watched as if they are next door. On top of the transfer of manufacturing technologies we have at Towada Pioneer to Pioneer’s plant in China, we ensure that information is shared at all times. Furthermore, we are in the process of unifying the awareness in the plants in Japan and China. Through such continuing efforts, we stably operate the production lines in the Chinese plant and have increased the number of BD drive production units while maintaining high product quality.
 
 
 
  Final inspection is conducted in a very quiet environment so that workers can carefully check the sounds.
