* The new standard high-speed recording discs
- Q -What are they ?
- A 4x-speed DVD-R and 2x-speed DVD-RW, they are called as the high-speed recording discs.
Both of them are approved by the DVD Forum* in August,2002.
As of Nov. 2003, the DVD Forum established additionally new high-speed recordable disc standards capable to support DVD-R 8x recording and DVD-RW 4x recording.
*DVD Forum is the worldwide organization made up from companies and organizations which engaged in the study, development and manufacturing of DVD products and who wish to dedicate for the fostering the standards further.
- Q -When and who are going to release the new High Speed(4X) DVD-R Media ?
- A Some of the hight-speed discs are on the market. Please be kind to consult with respective media makers.
* The cause, and its countermeasure
- Q -What is the cause of this problem ?
- A The inadequate firmware in the writer causes this problem.
- Q -What is the symptom when the problem occurs ?
- A The drive does not function at all. Even inserted disc cannot be ejected. Once such malfunction occurs, the writer will become unable to read or write the inserted disc. Furthermore the disc may be damaged consequently.
- Q -How to prevent this symptom occur ?
- A The symptom can be prevented by downloading the updated firmware prior to the use of the new high-speed disc.

- Q -Does the problem affect any affect PCs ?
- A No. PCs will not be affected.
- Q -What should I do if a disc containing important data is damaged ?
- A The problem only occurs in the case of using an unrecorded disc, so a recorded disc with data is not the subject.
- Q -How can I check whether the writer is required for the firmware download or not ?

- A There will be no such a threat.
- Q -Are the DVD Writers(DVR-A03, A04/104) ready for 4x and 8x(DVD-R)/2x and 4x(DVD-RW) by downloading the new firmware ?
- A They will write on the new High Speed Media with 2X(DVD-R)/1X(DVD-RW) maximum.
Note, however, that DVR-A03 and DVR-A04/104 are unable to record on the 4X DVD-RW(Version 1.2,Revision 2.0). Tough the recorded disc is playable by them, they will return an error message when the blank disc is wrongly inserted to record.
Please make sure to use the DVD-RW Version 1.1 for DVR-A03 and DVR-A04/104.
