Pioneer drives' Writing Speed Media List

Note 1 : This is a list of the media for which the drive has write strategies.
A write strategy is a set of parameters that enables an optical disc drive to write on a specific type of blank media according to its optimum specifications.

Note 2: These writing speeds are possible on the listed media, but actual writing speed will depend on the type of data being written, the computer environment, disc condition and other factors.

Note 3 : Select media has been tested for actual operation.
Some discs may not be writable due to the effects of dust, fingerprints, scratches, dirt or direct sunlight, storage conditions, or the condition of the disc at the time of production, including manufacturing irregularities.

The maximum writing speed on DVR-109 series is depending on the media type.

Adopted media supported by the individual Write Strategy (the best writing condition memorized) only are to write with 6X or 8X or 12X or 16X speed specified*1.
Non adopted media are written with 4X speed maximum only *2.

6X or 8X Speed Write Support on the 8X Speed DVD-R Media
Above writers memorize adequate writing conditions(Write Strategy) unique for DVD-R media made respectively.
Only these media are written either by 6X or 8X speed respectively. The other media not covered by the write strategy will be written by 4X.*1
12X or 16X Speed Write Support on the 8X Speed DVD-R Media
To maximize users' benefit, Pioneer has extended speed support with either 12X or 16X speed on the 8X speed media for above writers. Higher writing speed support is realized by Pioneer unique Write Strategy (media unique writing conditions memorized by the writer). For the media not supported by the Write Strategy, the writer will write with 4X,6X or 8X speed.*1

6X or 8X Speed Write Support on the 8X Speed DVD+R Media
Above writers memorize adequate writing conditions(Write Strategy) unique for DVD+R media made respectively.
Only these media are written either by 6X or 8X speed respectively. The other media not covered by the write strategy will be written by 4X.*1
12X or 16X Speed Write Support on the 8X Speed DVD+R Media
To maximize users' benefit, Pioneer has extended speed support with either 12X or 16X speed on the 8X speed media for above writers. Higher writing speed support is realized by Pioneer unique Write Strategy (media unique writing conditions memorized by the writer). For the media not supported by the Write Strategy, the writer will write with 4X, 6X or 8X speed.*1
