At Pioneer, we base our environmental efforts on the belief that the Earth is another customer. With deep gratitude for the Earth's rich natural environment, we are striving to minimize the environmental impact of our business and products. On example is the reduction in power consumption of our products. In 2005, our digital-definition plasma TV won the Chairman's Award in the Energy Conservation Grand Prize, hosted by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ).
It is particularly noteworthy that not only is this the first time for a Pioneer product to win this prize, but it is also the first time that any large-screen, flat-panel TV with high picture quality has been recognized this way by the ECCJ.
The Corporate R&D Laboratories adopted the environmental management system in the early stages of its operation, and in 2000 the laboratories became ISO14001 certified. But we did not stop there; we have continued our efforts to go even further. Before we even start the R&D process, we conduct a Life Cycle Assessment to gauge the environmental impact of our activities. Then we take the ideal even further by asking and answering the question: How can use energy and resources more efficiently? Can we reduce or eliminate harmful wastes? How do we make things more compact?
At the same time, to make the best use of the fruit of our ecological efforts for society, we areconducting a broad range of social activities that include the protection of nature in the area in which we operate, the holding of environmental symposiums, and the support for ecological education at junior high school.
Pioneer focuses on R&D that reflects its concern for the environment, incorporating minimal-impact LCA principles.
Research into ultra-high-density recording such as high-precision electron-beam drawing on optical discs
This technology contributes to saving resources by boosting recording density to more than 100 times that of DVDs.
